Each workshop in the "Conversations between an Egyptologist and a Perfumer" Series has the option to purchase a kit or discovery set. 

KITS

Purchase kits directly from instructor Egyptologist Dora Goldsmith, who has personally designed several educational kits. Doras kits are made with authentic raw materials sourced from the areas that supplied the Egyptians with perfume ingredients in antiquity.

The kits are solely recommended, they are NOT mandatory, to fully experience the depth of knowledge that Dora will be sharing. To pre-order the kits, send an e-mail directly to Dora: doragold@zedat.fu-berlin.de. 

Since the kits are created from the authentic plant matter from Egypt, there are limited numbers and we highly encourage you to pre-order yours before they sell out. The kits will be mailed out from Berlin.

“HATHOR’S PERFUME COCKTAIL KIT” makes two fragrant drinks: the beer-based drink (right) and the wine-based drink (left). These cocktails are not only great for learning about the intersection of perfumery and cocktail-making in ancient Egypt, but they can also be a fun activity to do with friends! The kit comes with instructions and an amphora of Dora’s own reconstruction of each cocktail to guide your work and to drink. The kit also includes some surprising ingredients, such as edible gold, lapis lazuli stone, a tiny millstone, and a clay seal with an imprint of Hathor’s face.

The “MEDJET KIT” includes all the ingredients to make the gods’ sacred temple ointment. The base of mD.t (likely pronounced "medjet" or "madjet") was beef tallow, which was strongly perfumed with resins, barks and roots, and finally dyed red.

➵ PERFUMERY of DEATH Class

Dora recommends the Mummy Kit, an advanced education tool designed to introduce you to the olfactory world of mummification and ancient Egyptian afterlife. You will learn about the smells that defined the mummification chambers and tombs, and the scents that the ancient Egyptians themselves wished to be surrounded by in their life after death.

Scents:

1. MUMMY: All the fragrant substances used on the body to mummify the deceased.
2. MUMMY BANDAGES: The deceased was wrapped in bandages soaked in liquid resin.
3. MUMMY GARLAND: The mummy was adorned with floral garlands covering its entire body from head to toe.
4. COFFIN: The mummified body was placed in a fragrant wooden coffin covered in liquid resin.
5. MUMMIFICATION

The scents above represent the olfactory world of mummification, this scent is indeed extremely similar to the way mummies smell today.

TUTANKHAMUN’S FLORAL COLLAR: The collar placed directly on Tutankhamun’s body was made out of nine rows of floral ornaments and constitutes one of the greatest finds from his tomb.
