➵ EARTH Saturday, June 3, 2023
This session of Fragrant Notes will focus on insights into "earthy" scents, which include, but are not limited to, those of freshly turned over soil and woody-vegetative notes. In aromatherapy, essential oils that are grounding facilitate bringing one into the NOW with feet firmly planted on the earth.
Everyone will have there own olfactory experience of "earthy"...this domain is very rich to explore. After all, there is the flowering of the earth as we experience in Spring, offering more floral and green notes rather than the sunbaked earth of the desert or the very vegetative and indolic earth of the tropics. This is an in person event limited to 8.
Each attendee will receive a sample of an Earth based solid perfume including essences sampled in the presentation. Read more on the topic of earthy scents at my new Substack titled Wandering the Wonderland.
➵ HATHOR Saturday, May 6, 2023
In this presentation, Roxana will share further insights in the development of her upcoming new ritual perfume inspired by Hathor, the Egyptian goddess of pleasure. We will familiarize ourself with the basic concepts of perfume construction and smell notes related to the Goddess Hathor.
Attendees will smell essential oils being used in this formulation that is loosely based on a perfume called ti-Sps (likely pronounced ti-shepes) a recipe inscribed at the laboratory of the temple of Edfu from the Ptolemaic Period.
Roxana will share insights in the development of her upcoming new ritual perfume inspired by Hathor, the Egyptian goddess of pleasure.
According to Egyptologist Dora Goldsmith, the instructor of the Ancients Egyptian Perfume series, the inscription notes that it is the “perfume for Hathor, lady of Dendera”. In Dora's translation of the recipe we are informed that the product is used to anoint the body of the goddess, thus it was a sacred scent for rituals: “Instructions for making this ti-shepes-perfume of best quality of styrax: 1 hin to anoint the Golden One (=Hathor)”.
